2013 Summer Camp Itinerary

Summer Camp will begin on June 24th and run until August 2nd. Please make sure to pick up a weekly itinerary to be up to date on camp events. Most days we will meet at Buckeye Recreation Center, but there are a few exceptions scheduled. The Buckeye Summer Camp is also pairing up with the Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria for Campers Night Out. The Buckeye Campers will actively choose the movie the Brick Oven will play that week night!

 

Rates and Times
Camp Sessions are held Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Please make sure to ALWAYS sign your camper in and out!

Week 1: June 24th—June 28th
Nickelodeon Days of Summer

On Monday, we welcome the campers.

Sports Galore!

The ASU Women’s Soccer team and Coach will spend the day with the campers doing a meet and greet with the players, an autograph signing session, what it is like being a college athletes and tons of soccer-related games and activities!

25 - Tuesday

iCarly Summer Party

Wacky Relay races, TV trivia tournament, Capture the Flag, Design your own snack!

Guests: Zumba-tomic with Nevada

Bring: Bag lunch, closed-toe shoes, and lots of water

26 - Wednesday

Figure It Out!

Dress in your best Nickelodeon Character Costume, Jimmy Neutron’s Arts and Crafts, Hike the Falls Trail, Ping Pong Tournament, and Figure it Out! Game show: Campers try to guess the hidden talents of Camp Staff and could get slimed!

Bring: Bag lunch, closed-toe shoes, and lots of water

 

27 - Thursday

Slime-time Live, Buckeye Style!

Hike Grassy Gap trail, Kickball, and Slime-time live game show

Bring: Bag lunch, closed-toe shoes, and lots of water

 

28 - Friday

Sponge Bob's BBQ and Lawn Party

An old-fashioned Hose-down!

Guests:  Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Department

Week 2: July 1st—July 5th
Red, White, and Blue Week

PLEASE NOTE:  on Wednesday, July 3rd, camp pick-up and drop-off will be at Wildcat Lake.

Camp Buckeye's Got Talent!

All-American games of kickball; Camp Buckeye’s Got Talent Show, Brainstorm ideas for Banner Elk Fourth of July Parade and design the float!

2 - Tuesday

Patriotic Day

Fishing and hiking on Lake Buckeye, roast S'mores at the bonfire pit, 4th of July Arts and Crafts

3 - Wednesday

Wildcat Lake

Drop-off and pick-up will be at Wildcat Lake!  Lounge, swim and canoe on Wildcat Lake, lake activities and games

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, a change of clothes, bathing suit, towel, sunscreen and lots of water!
4 - Thursday

** NO CAMP, Happy 4th of July! **

5 - Friday

Party in the USA

Hike the Oregon Trail (Falls Trail), lunch by the falls, New York fashion week activity, and Hawaiian Luau

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, a change of clothes, bathing suit, towel, sunscreen and lots of water!

Week 3: July 8th—July 12th
Around the World in 5 Days

PLEASE NOTE:  on Wednesday, July 3rd, camp pick-up and drop-off will be at the Emerald Outback Parking Lot across from Town Hall.   Bring money for lunch on Tuesday.

Mexico

World Cup Soccer Tournament, Mexican-themed arts and crafts and activities.  Create your own delicious snacks!

9 - Tuesday

Australian Outback

Drop-off and Pick-up at the Emerald Outback Parking Lot!  Hike the Emerald Outback Trail with Shaun and BJ.  Kangaroo relay races and activities.  Lunch at the Brick Oven and mini-golf.  Beech Mtn Volunteer Fire Department demonstration.

Bring:  Money for lunch, closed-toe shoes, and lots of water!
10 - Wednesday

London

Amazing Race activity.  Ping pong tournament and Volleyball game.

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, and lots of water!
11 - Thursday

Greece

Fishing with Tanya, Camp Wacky Olympics, Dodge ball in the Parthenon, create Yiaouriti for a snack!

Remember that tonight is movie night at the Brick Oven Pizzeria!

12 - Friday

Scotland

The Grandfather Highland Games.  Leaving from Buckeye at 9:45 am.  Only 20 campers can attend, due to transportation constraints.  Please register with us well in advance for this event.

Week 4: July 15th—July 19nd
Hunger Games Survival Week

PLEASE NOTE:  on Friday, July 20th, we can only accommodate 20 campers.  Advance registration for this day is required!  Campers who are registered for Friday will need to bring lunch money for that day.

Training Day of Fire Safety

Learn how to build a fire in the woods, fire safety techniques.  Create Team District banners.  Relay races.  Make your own survival snack.  Counselors vs. campers dodge ball game.

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, lots of water, and your sense of adventure!

16 - Tuesday

Training Day of Plant Ecology

Learn how to survive in the woods by being able to identify edible and inedible plants, hike the Grassy Gap Creek Trail, and learn the art of camouflage.

Guests:  Brie Powell

Bring: Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, lots of water

17 - Wednesday

Training Day of Survival

Learn knot-tying skills, how to create a safe and sustainable wilderness shelter.  Hike to the Lake Buckeye Bonfire Pit and roast s'mores.

18 - Thursday

Hunger Games

Use all the skills you have acquired so far.  Compete in group contests of: Best wilderness shelter, Best knot tying skills, and Best Wilderness Plants identification.

Remember that tonight is movie night at the Brick Oven Pizzeria!

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, lots of water
20 - Friday

WINGS!

Visit the Hickory Wings base for the day; meet the crew, tour the base, and see the rescue helicopter.  This trip is limited to ONLY 20 campers due to transportation constraints, so please register with us in advance.  We leave Buckeye at 9:40 am.  Lunch at a restaurant after the base tour.

Bring: Money for lunch, closed-toe shoes, lots of water

Week 5: July 22nd—July 26th
Wild Beech Week

PLEASE NOTE:  on Tuesday, July 23rd, and Thursday, July 25th, we can only accommodate 20 campers.  Advance registration for this day is required!   Also, on Friday, drop-of and pick-up will be at the Emerald Outback Trail head parking lot across from Town Hall.

Stocking of Lake Buckeye

Fishing demonstration and help stock catfish in Lake Buckeye, lunch by the lake, and animal relay races and activities.

23 - Tuesday

Exploring Grandfather Mountain

Hike the Loop Trail on Grandfather Mountain led by a Park Ranger and see the animal exhibits and the mile-high bridge! This field trip is limited to 20 campers due to transportation constraints. Please register well in advance!

Bring: Bag lunch, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, a camera if you want to take photos, and lots of water
24 - Wednesday

Fishing Derby 

Fish at Lake Buckeye, lunch by the lake, and outdoor games and activities.

Bring: Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and lots of water
25 - Thursday

Hunt Fish Falls

Swim and lounge by a secret waterfall swimming hole that only the locals know.  This field trip is limited to 20 campers, due to transportation constraints.  Please register well in advance.

26 - Friday

Best of Beech

Drop-off and pick-up are at the Emerald Outback Trail head parking lot across from Town Hall.  Guided hike of the Emerald Outback by the Town of Beech Mountain Outdoor Recreation Team, lunch on the trail, mini-golf at the Brick Oven.

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and lots of water

Wear your pajamas to camp, Special Guests: The Boone Shag Club who will teach the campers the art of the Shag Dance, hike the Falls trail and relay races.

30 - Tuesday

Wacky Tacky Day

Wear your wacky tacky outfits, wacky relay races, wacky Olympics, and wacky scavenger hunt.

31 - Wednesday

Happy Halloween!

Wear your spook-tacular outfits, counselor vs. campers Halloween dodge ball, Halloween-themed games, Halloween Ball

Bring: Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, your most spook-tacular outfit, and plenty of water
1 - Thursday

UP! UP! and AWAY!

Wear your coolest Superhero outfit!  See and interact with with Beech Mountain’s local heroes and a Beech Mountain Ole’ Fashion Hose-down.

Guests:  Beech Mtn Volunteer Fire Department and Beech Mtn Police Department

Bring:  Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, bathing suit, towel, a change of clothes, your superhero outfit and lots of water.

2 - Friday

Decades Day!

Dress in your favorite Decades attire!  70's tie-dye (Campers bring something to tie-dye), 60’s version of Kick the Can game, 80’s Arcade Game Trivia, 90’s Cranium, and Decades Pizza Party)

Bring: Bag Lunch, closed-toe shoes, your favorite Decades attire, and lots of water!
