Art History Made Easy and Wine Tasting

More Info: Buckeye Recreation Center has teamed up with the Beech Mountain Art Guild to bring you Art History Made Easy. Jerry Olsen, a retired medical professor will talk about some of his favorite artists during these presentations that will be paired with a wine tasting from local wineries. He will put the artists work into a recognizable historic perspective and show examples of what makes the work notable. These free programs are sure to be fun and enlightening.

Fly Tying & Fly Fishing with BJ

When: April 11th-12th, May 15th-16th, June 20th-21st, July 18th-19th, August 13th-14th, September 11th-12th, October 10th-11th

Where: Meet at the Buckeye Recreation Center

Time: Fly Tying 9am-11am; Fly Fishing 9am-1pm

Cost: $75 per a Person per Package

Age: 15 and Older

More Info: Join BJ, our local fishing expert for a two day fishing experience unlike any other. On the first day you will learn to tie your own flies and then fish with them on the following day! BJ will take you to some of the local spots and best kept secrets for fishing in North Carolina.

Community Bonfires

When: June 27th, July 25th, August 22nd, September 26th

Where: Buckeye Lake Bonfire Pit

Time: 7pm

Cost: Free

Age: Family friendly

More Info: Come cozy up next to a roaring bonfire and enjoy one of Beech Mountain's best assets...the cool weather! Enjoy hot cocoa or cider, smores and campfire stories and songs with your friends and family all in the gorgeous setting of Buckeye Lake.

Walks for Wine with the Town of Beech Mountain and the Beech Mountain Club

When: June 26th, July 24th, August 21st

Where: Meet at Town Hall

Time: 3pm

Cost: $7 per person for tasting

Age: 21 and Older

More info: Come enjoy the best that the mountains have to offer starting with a gentle hike with breathtaking, 360 degree views from the top of Beech Mountain into the Banner Elk Winery. There you will enjoy a tasting of our local wines and a shuttle ride back up the mountain will be provided by the Beech Mountain Club. This is a wonderful event that is a collaborative effort between the Beech Mountain Club and the Town of Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation Department.

Water Color Class

When: June 11th, June 18th, June 25th

Where: Buckeye Recreation Center

Time: 10am until 12:30pm

Cost: $40 per a person for 3 classes

Age: 12 and Older

More info: Our local water color expert, Dava Carson will once again be offering her artistic expertise on painting with water color. Join her for great instruction, and a great time with friends all while painting and learning water color. 

Bark Park and Friends

Overnight Family Camping Trip

More info: Grab your smores sticks and be ready to rough it in the great outdoors. Our family friendly camping trips will be a great experience for your whole family. Please sign up in advance as space and equipment is limited.

Canoe and Kayak Excursions

Local flora and fauna, Beech townsmen and women, and miscellaneous items are the treasures at hand! Capture the treasures with a quick snap of your camera for proof and earn points for each item found. Find everything on the list to win a family prize pack! A list of the scavenger hunt items is available by request at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Participants have one week to submit their findings. Don't miss this awesome summer adventure!
